Why Do a Tub to Shower Conversion

Why do a tub to shower conversion?

These days, I think everyone’s life is too crazy-busy.  When is that last time you took a bath?  If you’re like me, there is no time to sit in the tub and soak.  Between working crazy hours, cooking, cleaning and running around to sporting events with the kids, there is just no time!  Now, when is the last time you stubbed your toe on the track of the shower door getting in or out of the bathtub to take a shower?  I know I personally do it once or twice a week!  We can probably all agree that once the kids are beyond the toddler age, the tub is nothing but an obstacle to getting in and out of the shower.

Did you ever think about how dangerous the bathroom can be?  When we start to get older, the bathtub becomes more and more unnecessary.  According to the NY Times, the bathroom is the most dangerous room in the house https://nyti.ms/WXooTT.  More than one third of the injuries that occur in the bathroom happen while bathing and showering.

A tub to shower conversion takes the obstacle out of the equation.  How nice would it be to open the shower doors and just walk into the shower and not have to step over the side of the bathtub catching your toe or your shin on the way in!  Your new shower will also be the same size as the old tub so you will have plenty of room for some great accessories, such as a full length shower caddy and/or a seat to make showering even easier as we age.

There are a few things to keep in mind while shopping for your new shower.

  • For safety reasons, make sure your new shower pan has a non-slip bottom and a grab bar.
  • Also, the acrylic walls should be solid sheets with no grout lines for easy cleaning. This is not to say that you still can’t have a beautiful tile “design”.
  • Look for Microban®infused products, according to their website, “Microban is the global leader in built-in antimicrobial protection keeping over 1000 products from leading manufacturers around the world cleaner and fresher for longer. Our antimicrobial technologies are built-in to products during the manufacturing process to provide an added level of cleanliness protection between cleanings. When microorganisms come in contact with a surface protected by Microban antimicrobial technologies, Microban protection begins to work immediately helping prevent the growth of bacteria, mold and mildew that can cause stains, odors and deterioration of the product.”   https://www.microban.com

Most importantly, go with a company that you trust and that has proven stability.  This way, you will have confidence in the fact that they will be there for you if and when you need them.
